March 2026 Joy Journal

Welcome back to the Joy Journal! We had many entries in the joy jar this month, and most of them have a special common denominator: G. He’s even the one who decorated the joy jar’s shelf this month. Fittingly, this month’s joy journal is…

A Celebration of G

One of the best things we did in March was celebrate G’s birthday. His big birthday treat came in the form of a new camera to supplement his enjoyment of photography.

G

We made a fun trip to a nearby botanical garden so he could experiment with the features. Walking through a botanical garden in early March is an exercise in searching for beauty that is not immediately obvious. Wait until April or May, and beauty will smack you in the face. Though less obvious, the beauty was still plentiful on this walk. That seek-and-find kind of joy reflects this journal’s mission quite well.

G

G also practiced with his camera during at-home celebrations. We made homemade pasta carbonara and homemade ice cream for his birthday treats. I love sharing hobbies with G. We both appreciate making things from scratch that we could easily find ready-to-eat at the grocery store. We align in our enjoyment of going through the process from the beginning, just because!

Our connection was naturally on my mind a lot throughout the month. As much as we celebrated, we also helped each other through several difficult surprises. One day, I heard a song for the first time that felt like a perfect reflection of my love of and gratitude for G. The song is “Sweet Symphony” by Joy Oladokun, and these lyrics especially resonated:

“Loving you's a sweet, sweet symphony

That all of heaven and earth join to sing…

Together through ups and the downs

Dungeons and ivory towers”

Now, we certainly are not in the metaphorical dungeon right now, but honestly, we’re also not gazing upon a magnificent vista from atop the ivory tower either. I’d say March has been a continued climb up the staircase inside that tower, and there’s no one I’d rather be climbing with. A steady hand to hold, a comfort in breathless moments, a cheerleader in pushing through the burn, and an excellent finder of windows to peek out at the awaiting vista. G is all these things and more. I could never run out of words to describe how wonderful he is to me, but I will let them land there for this moment.

G

I hope your March was full of joy, whether sought-for or obvious.

I’d love to hear what you put in your (metaphorical or actual) joy jar this month!

xx

Love, Paula KS
